SPACE INSIGHT SCIENTIST APPOINTED NEW CHAIR OF IADC MEASUREMENTS WORKING GROUP

Phil Herridge has been appointed the new chair of the Measurements Working Group 1 (WG1) of the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC). The appointment is for two years (mid-2014 – mid-2016), and follows two years as the Group’s deputy chair. Toshifumi Yanagisawa of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is the new deputy chair.

The IADC is an international governmental forum for the worldwide coordination of activities related to the issues of man-made and natural debris in space. The primary purposes of the IADC are to exchange information on space debris research activities between member space agencies, to facilitate opportunities for cooperation in space debris research, to review the progress of ongoing cooperative activities, and to identify debris mitigation options.

Every year since the company’s formation in 2005 a Space Insight scientist has been part of the UK Space Agency’s delegation to the IADC. This is the second time that a Space Insight scientist has chaired the Measurements Working Group.
